History of Roulette
Roulette history dates well back into the earliest gambling times. Its name comes from a French word that means “small wheel”. In its earliest form, this game was played in France during the early 18th century. There, the people enjoyed the game because of the action and fast paced nature with which it was played.
The Roulette wheel itself is a development that came as a combination of many different games. It is thought that well over six different game boards combined to make up the roulette wheel. In its current form, roulette was played as early as 1796 in Paris. Over the course of a few years, developments have been made to the game in order to make it more interesting. In 1842, a French man by the name of Louis Blanc added the characteristic “0” that is now a huge part of the game and odds making. Other additions have been made over the last 200 years, as well.
It is said that there are some very Satanic elements to the history of the game. In 1842, it is said that Francois and Louis Blanc made a deal with the devil in order to come up with the secrets of roulette. The numbers on the Roulette wheel (1 to 36) add up to equal “666”, which is the number of the beast.
Basic Roulette Rules
Roulette, like most games within the casino, is one that can be played both simply and with more complicated elements. Because of this, it is a big attraction for both novice and experienced gamblers. On the Roulette wheel, 18 numbers are red and 18 numbers are black. Likewise, there are an equal number of even and odd numbers. When added to the “0” and “00”, this makes up the entire Roulette board. Players are allowed to make their bets on either red, black, even, odd, or any of the individual numbers.
Players are rewarded based upon the risk that they take. For example, they can make 1:1 on their money should they choose to bet on red or even. If they bet on an individual number, then they can win substantially more. There other options, as well, including betting on a grouping of numbers.
After all of the bets are in place, a member of the casino spins the wheel in one direction and spins the ball in another direction. The ball eventually lands in a slotted position that determines the winners.
There are some forms of roulette in casinos where players make their bets on a computer screen. Usually, the bets are placed down on a table, though.
